Redeeming tag items

Tag items are transferable cosmetics. You can store or trade the item before applying it; renaming an ordinary item does not create a tag reward.

Apply a tag

Hold a genuine tag item and right-click the air or a block. One item is consumed to apply its saved formatting to your account. You do not need permission to create custom tags just to redeem an item you received.

Avoid repeated clicks while the change saves. Check the result before using a second item.

Prefixes and suffixes

Text rewards generally occupy the prefix slot. Emoji or symbol rewards occupy the suffix slot. These slots are independent, so you can wear a text prefix and an emoji together.

For example, applying a coffee text reward and then a wave emoji keeps both. Applying a different emoji replaces the suffix rather than removing your text prefix. The item's type determines which slot it changes.

Trade and collect

An unapplied item can be stored or traded like a collectible. An applied item is held by the tag system until that tag is replaced or removed. This means changing cosmetics need not destroy the item you originally redeemed.

For taking a tag off, recovering a replaced item, or claiming a queued return, see removing and recovering tags.
