Collecting and selling fish

Catch special fish

Fish normally with a rod in an allowed location. Custom catches can have names, rarities, and sizes. Their availability can depend on location, biome, time, weather, or an active event.

Keep a special fish's item details intact. An ordinary renamed fish does not gain a custom catch's identity or value.

Custom catches are enabled outside competitions, and a special rod is not required. Vanilla fishing loot remains enabled. Catches are not sent directly into your inventory, so watch where they land.

Lava and void fishing are disabled. Custom fish are protected against consumption, cooking, crafting, and placement; keep collection specimens separate from ordinary food.

Manage your collection

Inspect a catch before eating, trading, or selling it. Store favorite specimens separately. Bait, where available, can affect fishing; read its instructions and the fish requirements rather than assuming it guarantees a particular catch.

A rod supports up to seven baits, and bait bonuses are disabled during competitions. Read each bait’s requirements before applying it.

Sell intentionally

Use /emf shop when fish selling is available. Inspect the selected sale option carefully: selling a single catch, selected fish, or everything eligible can have different results. Move keepsakes into storage before using broad sale actions.

Why am I only catching ordinary loot?

Check that custom fishing is enabled for you and that the location meets the catch requirements. A rare catch is not guaranteed on every cast. Ordinary Minecraft fishing loot may still appear.
